The World Diabetes Day is already behind us.
The World Diabetes Day is celebrated on the birthday of the discoverer of insulin, Federick Banting. Polfa Tarchomin S.A., famous for the insulin production, helps the sick not only with continuous provision of the necessary medicine, but also engages itself in their education.
Today, the number of diabetes cases is growing at such a rapid pace that people even speak of an epidemic of this disease. Therefore, emphasis on the education, prevention and early detection of the disease is so important. Some estimate that in Poland over 3 million people already suffer from diabetes. According to the recent research, diabetics constitute up to 8.3% of the population. It is estimated, that until 2025, the number of diabetics all over the world will be up to 300 million. The Chairman of the International Diabetics Federation (IDF) claims that the humanity is moving towards the greatest health disaster in history caused by an alarming increase in the number of people with diabetes. It happens mainly because the disease – before it is detected – may develop for years in a man’s organism. The more so because the early symptoms are relatively mild and difficult to recognise. However, most of the diabetes cases might be prevented by leading a healthy lifestyle. Poor eating habits and a typical urban lifestyle increase the incidence. Therefore, it is important to increase the awareness of the society about the disease, a/o by celebration of the World Diabetes Day.
